Young Sorceress

Rilla comes from a line of powerful sorceresses going back countless generations, all of them leaders in the ancient war against the elves. With talented bloodlines like that, Rilla should be the most powerful of them all. But she has a problem: She can't cast a single spell. Matters only get worse when her mother vanishes one day, abducted by their ancient enemy. When no one seems willing to risk their life to rescue her mother, Rilla decides to do it herself, though she's young, inexperienced, and unprepared for the terrible dangers that lie ahead. Ias, a failed fighter with problems of his own, finally agrees to join her on the journey through the hostile land of the elves. Together, they must face savage warriors, formidable magic, and insurmountable obstacles if they are to find Rilla's mother before it's too late.

A terrible danger is approaching. The castings by the Circle of 13 have finally revealed clear portents, omens of death and destruction on an unimaginable scale. Now the powerful sorceresses know they must give Rilla and her friends a new mission: go the territory of the Industrials and recruit their help. A difficult task, as there has been no contact with this technically advanced society for twenty years, and they consider Rilla's people to be nothing more than superstitious, ignorant barbarians. Somehow, Rilla, Ias, Morris, and Zibby must go to the Industrials, convince them of the certainty of the oncoming danger, and enlist their aid in the looming battle that could mean the extinction of the last few nations of Earth.

War is coming. The three nations know it and are preparing for it, but it will be a war like no other, against an enemy from far away, bringing horrific machines of destruction. Somehow, the different territories, Rilla's, the Elves, and the Industrials, together with the Pixies, must learn to fight as a cohesive force to repel this invader from another world. All their years of bitter squabbling and conflict must be set aside if they are to master a new way of fighting, against an enemy they can barely understand, using methods and weapons they've never tried. Rilla's power and the ingenuity and determination of her friends will be put to the ultimate test in this showdown of Might versus Magic.
