Silverblood Raven

Raven was eight when her parents were murdered. Now it's happened again. Her guardian dead. Their home destroyed. She can hunt and fight, but life in isolation hasn't prepared her for survival outside the forest. The magic within her makes her a target for execution by the Silverblood Brotherhood, an institution that regulates such powers with an iron fist. Having never spoken to a stranger before, how can she hope to navigate a world where anyone might turn her in for that magic? Her guardian dreamed of living someplace where Raven would be safe and accepted. Is there a chance she can find that on her own, or will the Brotherhood find her first?

Raven could almost enjoy this life where her biggest concern is chasing off beasts that stray too close to town, but the silver-eyed shadow haunting her sleep has her on edge. Then a man she never expected to see again warns her that the Silverblood Brotherhood is hunting her once more. His words confirm her suspicions that her nocturnal visitor is more than a mere nightmare. The only way to protect her new home now is to leave it, but she has nowhere to go until the discovery of an item that belonged to her mother opens a door for someone else to enter her dreams. Someone who might be able to help her if she can survive long enough to reach him.

The Silverblood Brotherhood wants Raven dead. Even the law of the land allows their doctrine to dictate her fate. It's beginning to look like letting the Brotherhood win may be the only way to protect those she loves. If only she could change the laws that currently deny her protection. But to do that, she would need to evade the Silverblood hunters long enough to gain the favor of a king. A daunting task for someone who still hasn't figured out the complexities of social expectations. With her life hanging in the balance, it might still be worth trying.
