Tom and his friends would much rather be on a bike ride than trying to navigate their own imaginations. But, with most of humanity frozen by Morgrim, their school librarian's bitter half-brother, their options were limited. It was either. Go to Phantasmagoria and search for the artifacts Morgrim Ripped from Earth so they can restore the balance between the worlds before both are destroyed. Or stay in Cedarville, Minnesota with their frozen families and friends, wondering if they'd be next in line to be turned into human popsicles. Guess the bike ride will have to wait. Join Tom, Katie, Chad, Melissa, and Sharice as they adventure through Phantasmagoria, encountering everything from long-winded trolls to upside-down rivers, on their search for three artifacts...before time runs out.

However, the search isn't easy when they must stay vigilant against treacherous nightmare creatures and the ever-spreading Blank that threatens to destroy everything around them. Back in Cedarville, Minnesota, Mr. Blackburn, the school librarian who sent Tom and his friends to Phantasmagoria, is fighting his own battles. Will he be able to protect the town? Can he teach the unfrozen residents to use the powers of imagination before Morgrim finds them? The balance between Phantasmagoria and Earth is tipping precariously. Phantasmagorians and humans alike must place their fate in the hands of five fifth graders and a school librarian. In Sharice's imagination, deep in the Hidden Jungle, Katie and Sharice must both make difficult decisions if they want to stay alive long enough to reunite with the rest of their friends, and hopefully find an artifact or two along the way. Having escaped into Chad's imagination, Tom and Melissa face nightmare creatures of prehistoric proportions. As they race to find Chad and the artifact, they may find that they are less safe from Gauen, the terrifying, shape-shifting leader of the Nightmare Army, than they thought. Back in Cedarville, Minnesota, Morgrim (the guy who threw off the balance between the real world and the world of Phantasmagoria) finally finds where his half-brother, Mr. Marcus Blackburn, is hiding. Will the brothers be able to forge an alliance to save Phantasmagoria? Join Tom, Katie, Chad, Melissa, and Sharice as they adventure through Phantasmagoria, encountering everything from hungry T. Rexes to frolicking castle guards, as they attempt to collect three artifacts... before time runs out.

Before us are endless paths, winding off in many directions... And occasionally you reach a crossroad. Everyone does. These can be big crossroads, ones that change your life permanently, or small ones, which shift the path of your life ever so slightly from the direction it was heading before. Though the kids have returned to Cedarville triumphant, three artifacts in hand, it isn't enough. Everyone is still frozen, and the balance between Earth and Phantasmagoria is still rapidly deteriorating. Mr. Blackburn is the first to realize it will take more drastic measures to restore both worlds. Like returning to Phantasmagoria. And fighting Gauen, the oldest nightmare creature in Phantasmagoria, and her terrifying Nightmare Army. Will they succeed, with help from allies across many imaginations? Or will Gauen get her wish and gain control of Phantasmagoria for the nightmares?
