Robbie MacFarlane, is an insurance investigator for whom two families dying inexplicably suddenly on a ski-ing holiday is just another case. In the mid-eighteenth century, Sir Gerald Sandford is building a new hall and a replacement water mill in Flemish brick while trying to introduce a hardy breed of Welsh cattle onto the heathland on his estate but strange behaviours are being exhibited.By 1942, the heathland near Sandford is serving as an airfield for newly arriving American bombers and given the rigours of aerial missions across Europe, it's unsurprising that some aircrew are suffering from both over-reliance on alcohol and PTSD.
