"Gay men are just like everyone else.""Gay men are inherently different."Both statements contain truths. In the drive for equal rights and social acceptance, so many in the LGBT movement have emphasized gay people's commonalities with straights. But what if gay men's differences were distinct gifts? What if gay men-and you-played important and singular roles in the human family? From a perspective seldom considered in mainstream gay-or straight-culture, Raymond L. Rigoglioso, founder of Gay Men of Wisdom, takes a fresh and open-hearted look at the critical roles that gay men play in the world. Organized around 14 Distinct Gay Male Gifts, Gay Men and The New Way Forward shows how gay men have emerged from a history dominated by victimization to become teachers for humanity. It proposes that, when we understand how we contribute to the health and vitality of society, LGBT people can make an entirely new case for equality and begin an important new era in our movement.Written as an invitation to self-discovery, Gay Men and The New Way Forward includes a self-assessment to help the reader discover how he serves and heals humanity, reinvents manhood, and frees and enriches the human spirit. What People Are Saying about Gay Men and The New Way Forward:"Thoughtful and clearly written, Raymond Rigoglioso's wondrous book holds wisdom for gay men of each generation. Historical in its sweeping vision yet practical on a daily level, a copy of The New Way Forward should be given to every gay man on planet earth. Because in healing ourselves with the profound insights offered here, we have the capacity to heal the world itself."--Mark Thompson, author of the Gay Spirit, Gay Soul, Gay Body trilogy-----------"Gay Men and The New Way Forward is a miracle of a book. Raymond Rigoglioso goes to the social, psychological, ethical, and mythical roots of what it means to be a gay man in the world today. Urging a journey from shame into a world of self-love and acknowledgment of the social and moral gifts that gay men can offer the world, this book is visionary in the best sense of the word. It is grounded in material reality, and yet understands the past and can see a potential future that is loving, healthy, and radiant not only for gay men, but the entire world." --Michael Bronski, author of A Queer History of the United States and The Pleasure Principle: Sex, Backlash and the Struggle for Gay Freedom and Professor of the Practice in Activism and Media in the Studies of Women, Gender and Sexuality at Harvard University----------"Gay Men and The New Way Forward is an urgently important book for our time, and I recommend it highly. It illumines the painful and beautiful secrets gay men wrestle with in the privacy of our hearts, and then gives us-and the world at large-a new way to understand our unique mission as a people. This lucid, wise, and inspiring work is a handbook for a new world."--Ken Page, author of Deeper Dating
