François Truffaut's intense look at the obsessive love that drives a woman to destruction. The woman is Adèle Hugo (Isabelle Adjani) the talented and privileged daughter of the most celebrated author in Europe; the object of her affection is a n'er-do-well English soldier, Lieutenant Pinson (Bruce Robinson).
