Bruce moves to Sweden to live with Emma. The reason for this is love, of course, but Bruce also views it as an opportunity for him to start over, to do something more meaningful with his life than helping spoiled asshole celebs make even more money. But moving to a new country with a new love is a big step, and somewhere in the back of his mind is the nagging question: am I doing the right thing? His doubt increases with each new challenge that he, like all immigrants, has to face – like learning the language, finding a job, understanding the culture or eating strange food without gagging.
Bruce Evans quits his successful job as a celebrity money manager and moves to Sweden for love. His first day in Sweden is tougher than expected, as he's forced to deal with new customs, new surroundings and his girlfriend Emma's strange family.
Bruce and Emma continues to try and adapt to Swedish life by attempting to learn the language. He enlists the help of a former client (Will Ferrell) and strikes up a surprising friendship with an Iraqi immigrant. Bruce and Emma have trouble finding some "alone time" at her family's summer house.
Bruce and Emma move into an apartment in Stockholm and Bruce tries his best to introduce himself to the neighbors. Bruce and Emma are forced to prove their relationship at the immigration office. Emma suspects that one of Bruce's former clients (Aubrey Plaza) may be stalking him.
Bruce tries to start over and find a job in Sweden. One of Bruce's former clients (Gene Simmons) tracks him down in Stockholm. Bruce longs to have a memorable face.
Bruce fails in his attempts to make new friends in Sweden. He tries to win over Emma's mother by spending some quality time together. Bruce's friendship with his Iraqi best friend is in peril.
Bruce's parents (Patrick Duffy and Illeana Douglas) come to Sweden for a visit and the ultimate culture clash with Emma's parents. Emma tells Bruce she's pregnant. Bruce's father can't tell the difference between gay and European.
Bruce and Emma have to make a decision after Bruce gets an offer from one of his former clients (Amy Poehler) to come back to the US. Aubrey Plaza visits Sweden in her ongoing effort to stalk Bruce and bring him home. Bruce attempts to work as a Swedish celebrity money manager.
A family emergency places Bruce and Emma's planned move back to the US in doubt. Bengt asks Bruce for help meeting women. Emma's ex-boyfriend comes to town.
Bruce is back in New York to help out an old client (Amy Poehler) in need. Emma has difficulties dealing with her ex-boyfriend staying in her apartment. Viveka wants to recapture her youth and spend a night out on the town with Emma.
Bruce finds himself in a compromising position with Aubrey Plaza. Emma and Gustav do their best to reunite their parents. Bruce runs into many obstacles in his quest to return to Sweden.
