Daphne du Maurier's tale of romance and suspense stars Charles Dance as Maxim de Winter and Emilia Fox as his new bride, who finds that the head housekeeper of Manderley, Mrs. Danvers (Diana Rigg), is devoted to her dead mistress, Rebecca.
Mrs. de Winter revives Manderley's famous ball, but, encouraged by Mrs. Danvers to copy her dress from a painting, she incurs Maxim's wrath. Mrs. Danvers' taunting reaches a climax as she declares Rebecca is still ruler at the house.
