As darkness falls on Skokholm, an eerie throbbing sound begins to swell from every burrow and rabbit hole as Dream Island prepares to reveal its greatest secret. Meet the mysterious bird of the night, the enigmatic Manx Shearwater. The island is home to over a third of the world's Manx Shearwaters whose haunting nocturnal cries were once thought to be the ghosts of drowned sailors. Designed to soar, this ocean going bird can hardly walk and is easy pickings if caught out in the open by day. Each year, when it returns to just a handful of nesting spots on Britain's west coast to breed underground, it is both at its most vulnerable and its most impressive.
