Dragons have changed history forever. Gideon is the top of the food chain but when he is, kidnapped by revolutionaries, they trap him in his human form until Hara rescues him. Hara isn't looking for trouble but she seems to attract it when they accidentally steal a pirate airship and are thrust into a conspiracy that could bring war to the Empire. Hara is running from her past when she stumbles across Gideon, an academic in need of rescuing. Only he is a dragon and he wants to collect her into his treasure. She isn't about to let anyone tell her what to do ever again.

Hara and Gideon are on a mission for the Emperor of the Wyvern Empire. They are to rescue a reluctant bride who has fallen into the clutches of an ambitious Duke. The Duke has plans to start a civil war and commit genocide of the dragons. Hara and Gideon have to stop the Duke before the wholesale killing of dragons can happen and save a runaway bride in the process.

There is peace now with dragons and humans having signed a treaty. Things changed because the dragons realised that they could mate with humans and this brought humans off the menu and into their lives. Of course, there is still cultural and species interactions that are confusing and amusing.
