Part 1 of the United States of True Crime series
United States of True Crime is an anthology series with books devoted to the most disturbing cases in each of the 50 states. This book focuses on 10 of the most chilling crimes in Alabama history.
True crime junkies may recognize some of the highly publicized cases, but I’ve made sure to include lesser-known, equally unsettling crimes.
The cases included in this book:
Audrey Marie Hilley: Black widow who murdered her husband, then attempted to poison her own daughter. She was able to evade capture by posing as her fictional twin sister.
Daniel Lee Siebert: Spree killer who butchered his girlfriend, her two sons who were both under age six, and his friends.
Michael McLendon: To date, McLendon’s massacre in 2019 was the bloodiest in the state of Alabama. He murdered his friends, family, and even his family dogs.
Richard Hawes: A family annihilator in 1888 whose crimes sparked a statewide riot.
Sixteenth Street Church Bombings: Racially motivated attack by KKK members that left four young Black girls dead and is now viewed as a turning point for the Civil Rights Movement.
Amy Bishop: Harvard-educated professor who became infamous after she went on a shooting rampage that left three coworkers dead. However, the attack was not her first time killing. When she was a teenager, she shot her brother under suspicious circumstances.
Joseph Dewey Akin: Code-blue junkie nurse who was convicted of intentionally overdosing a patient in his care and is suspected in the deaths of 17 of his former patients.
Thomas Whisenhant: Murderer with a pattern of desecrating the bodies of his victims.
Scottsboro Boys: One of the most notorious court cases of the 20th century where two white women falsely accused nine Black boys of rape.
Gerald Patrick Lewis: Serial killer whose heinous crimes include slaying a woman who was eight months pregnant and removing the fetus from her body.
If you’re a true crime enthusiast who enjoys hearing about some of the most depraved monsters in our country, you will love United States of True Crime.

Part 2 of the United States of True Crime series
United States of True Crime is an anthology series with books devoted to the most disturbing cases in each of the 50 states. This audiobook focuses on 10 of the most chilling crimes in Alaska history.
True crime junkies may recognize some of the highly publicized cases, but I’ve made sure to include lesser-known, equally unsettling crimes. Not all of the cases included in this audiobook are the most violent in state history. While serial murderers are covered, I’ve also included some cases that are unsettling because of the gnawing sense of injustice they leave.
The cases included in this audiobook:
Robert Hansen: Serial killer who flew his victims to the remote wilderness and hunted them like animals. He confessed to murdering 17 women and raping at least 30.
Thomas Richard Bunday: Confessed to the brutal slaying of four women and a young girl but committed suicide before standing trial, leading investigators to believe his victim count may have been much higher.
Michael Silka: Murdered his neighbor in Fairbanks before embarking on a killing spree in a remote Arctic town.
Joshua Wade: Acquitted for murdering an indigenous Alaskan woman then went on to kill another woman when he was released. While incarcerated he also confessed to murdering three men.
Gary Zieger: Serial killer killed in retaliation for murdering a mother and her young son. Investigators assert that he was connected to at least five murders
Lisa Donlon: Shot her husband to death after years of abuse then forced to stand trial.
James Dale Ritchie: Killed in a shootout with police. After his death police connected him to five unsolved homicides.
Robert Allen Hale: Frontiersman who physically, mentally, and sexually abused his 15 children for decades in rural Alaska.
Steven H. Downs: Accused of the murder of a young woman after DNA evidence was linked to him over 25 years after her death.
Israel Keyes: Serial murderer who defied everything the FBI thought they knew about serial killers. He evaded capture for decades by abducting his victims in one state, murdering them in another, and disposing of them in a third. Although he only ever confessed to three murders before he committed suicide in prison, the FBI believes he had at least 11 victims.

Arizona: The Most Chilling Cases In All 50 States
United States of True Crime is an anthology series with books devoted to the most disturbing cases in each of the 50 states. This book focuses on ten of the most chilling crimes in Arizona history.
True crime junkies may recognize some of the highly publicized cases, but I’ve made sure to include lesser-known, equally unsettling crimes.
The cases included in this book:
Winnie Ruth Judd: Killed her two friends in an argument over a man. She then traveled with their bodies in her luggage on a train to Los Angeles. She was committed to a mental institution but broke free several times and was at large for over 6 years.
Mark Goudeau: From 2005 to 2006 he terrorized the Phoenix area. He was charged with killing 9 and sexually assaulting 15.
Samuel Dieteman and Dale Hausner: Duo who went on a “recreational violence” shooting spree that left eight dead.
Cory Morris: Lured women with the promise of drugs and admitted to strangling them during sex and desecrating their corpses.
Robert Fisher: Accused of murdering his wife, two children, and the family dog before disappearing. He was on the FBI’s most wanted list for over 15 years.
William Huff: Assaulted and murdered two young girls, then taunted police through letters.
Jodi Arias: Beautiful young woman who was convicted of murdering her boyfriend in cold blood.
Jared Loughner: Mass shooter intended to kill a congresswoman and a judge and killed many others in the rampage, including a 9-year-old girl. He was diagnosed schizophrenic but found competent to stand trial after being forcibly medicated.
Robert Spangler: Pushed his third wife into the Grand Canyon. He claimed it was an accident to investigators, but more than 6 years later, he admitted to the murder. He also confessed to murdering his first wife and their two children and framing her for it.
Christopher Matthew Clements: Currently awaiting trial for the murder of 6-year-old Isabel Celis and 13-year-old Maribel Gonzales. Isabel’s body was recovered based on a tip provided by Clements and DNA positively connected him to Maribel.

United States of True Crime is an anthology series with books devoted to the most disturbing cases in each of the 50 states. This book focuses on ten of the most chilling crimes in Arkansas history.
The cases included in this book:
Jason Baldwin, Damien Echols, and Jessie Misskelley: Infamously known as the West Memphis Three, the three teenagers were convicted of murdering three eight-year-old boys. After eighteen years in prison all three men were released after the discovery of new DNA evidence and potential juror misconduct.
Mary Lee Orsini: While under investigation for the murder of her third husband, she hired a hitman to execute her lawyer’s wife. Although her motive for the execution is still unclear, she was convicted for both murders.
Travis Lewis: Demented man convicted of murdering two cousins in 1996. Throughout his time in prison, he corresponded with one of his victim’s daughters, maintaining his innocence. Upon his release in 2020 he bludgeoned that daughter of his first victim to death on the same property where he killed her mother and cousin.
Andrew Golden and Mitchell Johnson: Were just eleven and thirteen years old, respectively, when they ambushed their school in a savage attack that left five dead and ten wounded.
Debra Sue Tuggle: Convicted of suffocating her daughter, and accused of killing four of her sons over an eight year period. She disguised her crimes as accidents for years to garner sympathy as a grieving mother.

Texarkana “Phantom Killer”: Still unsolved case of a killer who targeted couples during a ten week reign of terror in 1946. Eight were attacked and five perished at the hands of the elusive murderer.

Dorthy Jean Matajke: Nurse who abused, robbed, then fatally poisoned multiple of her elderly patients.
Ronald Gene Simmons Sr: Brutally murdered fourteen members of his family including a child he fathered with one of his own daughters. He then continued his rampage in town, executing two more innocent victims and wounding two others.
