After some twenty years away from her home town, Stella Martin returns for a high school reunion. Her life becomes bizarre when a girl she barely knew claims her as a long lost best friend. After discovering they both now live in the same town, the 'friend' maintains contact. Stella's decision to attend the high school reunion destroys her life. After engaging Private Investigator, Sonoma (Sonny) Whittington, to investigate recent changes in his wife's behaviour, Stella's husband experiences first-hand something of the world impacting on his wife. Early in her investigation, Sonny discovers her new case requires her to work closely with the local police on one of their cases if she is to discover what is happening to Stella Martin.
