Shaarvan

Eighteen year-old Susan applies for a college scholarship, but is scooped up in an alien sweep. Renamed Shaara and married to the alien, Shaarvan, she is forced to adapt to customs and traditions that she finds appalling. In fact, nothing is good about the situation, but adaptation means learning to find the positive, and she always did want to travel.

Shaara is adapting to life with an alien husband. He is strict and demanding, yet she tries to please him. But when they land on Altar, his home planet, nothing seems to go right for Shaara. She is constantly doing or saying the wrong thing. Everything is new to her and frankly alien. But occasionally her husband is loving, and her new parents-in-law adore her. Things might be looking up until, Thenos, Shaarvan's brother, begins to cause trouble.

Kidnapped and mind-wiped by an alien slave trader, Shaara is quickly sold to a small time gambler who mistreats her. Depressed by the horror of her life, she contemplates ending it, but discovers the beauty of the horse-like creatures living on a ranch nearby. Meanwhile, on Altar, a scheming Thenos, Shaarvan's brother, has begun a civil war meant to place him on the throne of Altar. His devious plans for Shaara have gone dreadfully wrong, and he, like Shaarvan, searches for her. In this third book of the series, Shapechanger, commoners, and a casino owner all challenge Shaara's plans for independence.

This series begins with ScholarShipBound. In Shaara of Westla, Shaarvan saves his wife from being a slave on Freinana, and carries her off to Westla, the artificial planet of the Shapechanger. There she is reunited with her son, Shaarac and with her lost memories. She begins training with the Priestess Tessa, and for a short time there is happiness, but war on Altar threatens, which leaves Shaara under the protectorship of four huge Warrior Shapechanger. One of them is supposed to be her temporary husband.

Shaara, a young woman, stolen from a California college, finds herself immersed in a culture she often doesn't understand. Before her husband leaves to return to his home world to battle in a brewing war, Shaara is not only bonded to four Warrior Shapechanger, but given in marriage to one of them. Her new husband is called her Second, but Shaara is unsure what that means. Her guardians vow to keep her and her son safe, but to do so, the group finds that they must journey to an un-touched planet where they must construct a shelter and learn to live in the wilderness

Shaara and her Shapechanger guardians have built a life on a planet far from others, but when Thenos, the leader of the Commoners on the planet, Altar, searches for Shaara, the group must once again flee. Shaarvan, leading the Shapechanger forces on Altar, wages war against his brother, the Emperor/King. The separation between Shaara and Shaarvan pains everyone, causing continual discord. Will there be no end to the trauma of this war and the suffering Thenos brings?

After Shaarvan rejects her, Shaara goes to the artificial planet of Westla for Priestess training. But when Shaara, her sons and the Bondmates arrive in Westla, Shaara finds that she must first pass the Priestess test and then learn to deal with the jealousy and resentment of the other Priestesses who say she is too young and too pretty to join their ranks. Although Thenos is dead, Shaara and her sons are still being stalked, and the war in Altar seems un-ending. Will she ever get to return to Altar and will Shaarvan accept her back as his wife?
