Being a Vampire
by Ramona Ridgewell
Part of the Seattle Vampire Tales series
The vampire Rix has always been on the run.
What if vampires lurk in the shadows of present-day Seattle, stalking the darkness of Cal Anderson Park or Green Lake after sunset? How do they blend in, concealing their true nature from mortal eyes? Would we even recognize their presence among us?
Imagine a world where immortal beings prowl the Emerald City's streets, their secrets veiled behind urban legends and local lore. In this thrilling new novel, step into Seattle's dark underbelly, where nightmares come alive and the line between myth and reality blurs.
On the eve of the pandemic, Rix struggles to survive. Unlike most of his undocumented peers, he possesses fake ID which allows him to work at part-time coding gigs that provide him with a little cash-until the contracts inevitably end. With tenuous housing, all his belongings-including his essential laptop-fit in his backpack, ready at a moment's notice to vacate and find another safe place to spend his days. His undead world upends when mysterious forces abduct another vampire. With long forgotten memories of the Army's pursuit rekindled, Rix flees, unhoused again.
In his hunt for refuge, Rix finds himself drawn to a human nurse, who unwittingly invites a vampire to become a more permanent part of her lonely life. Her attraction to him, and his to her, blossoms. And things begin to change for the better. But with him hiding his true self from her, can it last?
From the bustling nightlife of Capitol Hill to the misty shores of Puget Sound, prepare to be captivated by a tale of forbidden love and the constant battle between light and darkness. "Being a Vampire" is a unique slice-of-life story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, challenging your perceptions of good and evil in the city you thought you knew.
Are you ready to pierce the veil and explore a Seattle where the supernatural exist just beyond human perception? Enter the realm of the undead-if you dare.

Strength of a Vampire
by Ramona Ridgewell
Part of the Seattle Vampire Tales series
The vampire Rix still searches for a safe place.
"Strength of a Vampire" picks up where "Being a Vampire" left off, with Rix once again in search of housing. His desperation for a safe haven leads him to a chaotic house filled with other vampires. Though Rix has always preferred independence, he forms unexpected bonds with the young vampires who share the house, each with their own struggles and stories. Among them, he finds a semblance of family.
Rix learns to respect the house leader, Bryer, who manages the unruly group with a firm but fair hand. Her leadership is tested as the COVID-19 pandemic progresses, making it increasingly difficult for the vampires to find sustenance and heightening tensions within the house.
As the summer of 2020 erupts into bedlam with nightly protests, the chaos offers an unexpected benefit for Rix-a perpetually full belly. Amid the crowds and the teargas, the protests become both a feeding ground and a backdrop for introspection. Rix begins to see the parallels between the human struggle for justice and his own quest for survival.
In the midst of this upheaval, Rix encounters a surprising ally-Maggie, the nurse from whom he rented a room until he confessed to being a vampire. Having had time to reconsider her stance, Maggie decides to reconcile with Rix. Their reunion rekindles the flicker of romance from book one, blossoming into a deeper connection, although Rix remains conflicted about the complexities of a vampire/human relationship.
Just as things seem to be stabilizing, tragedy strikes. In the aftermath, Rix is forced to make a heartbreaking decision about how to protect Maggie from the chaos.
"Strength of a Vampire" is a tale of resilience, unexpected friendships, and the search for belonging in a world turned upside down. It explores themes of independence, leadership, and the power of unity in the face of adversity. For Rix, the path to finding his place in this new reality is fraught with challenges, but it is also filled with the potential for growth and redemption.
