Ordinary Hero is the story of Anabar, a young man who dreams of leaving home to seek adventure. He is not wealthy; he has no royal blood; he has no magical abilities; and he is not physically gifted. However, he does possess determination and sets a goal of joining the Scouts, a secretive band of elite warriors.Under the harsh eye of Omalof, his mentor, Anabar faces months of brutal training involving weapons, spying, survival, and mountain climbing. While physically tough enough to make it as a scout, Anabar worries that he might not have the courage to fight and even kill if called to do so and has serious doubts about a coming war.Despite this, Anabar senses he is destined to become a Scout and is determined to succeed at his final, most difficult and dangerous test, which could cost him his freedom or even his life. Will Granger was born near Pittsburgh, PA and grew up in New Jersey and Geneva, Switzerland. He spent 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, where he was able to travel around the world. Scenes from his travels appear throughout his books. He also attended James Madison University and earned his MA in Language Arts Education from the University of Central Florida.After the Air Force, Will began new careers as an author and English teacher.

Anabar proves he has the skills to be successful but violates a key rule of the Scouts: to not draw attention to yourself. Banished to a remote posting near the border, Anabar is captured by invading group of enemy Ricamar soldiers. While captive, Anabar earns his freedom and meets Princess Astrida, daughter of the Ricamar king.When the Ricamars threaten to begin a war with the Semdelans, Anabar is torn between escaping to fight alongside the Scouts and staying to be with the princess. He ultimately decides to risk everything, his position, his love for the princess, and even his life, to attempt to prevent the war.
