Kidnapped by the Ruiz Cartel, Lochlan is kept in a state of perpetual weakness and starvation, his magic barely sustaining him. His resolve is tested when another prisoner is thrown into his cell, offering a grim choice: die in captivity or use dark Magic to consume his cellmate's life force, and escape. Zemila's powers are out of control. She has no idea where Lochlan is or how to get the only weapon that can kill the Demon King hunting them. When hope seems lost, Zemila gets a visit from an old friend who can bring the weapon from Europe to her city. All she'll have to do is steal it.
