The Mardi Gras season has come to South Louisiana, and it should have been a happy one. But when Rex, King of Carnival collapses from his parade float, a dark cloud forms over the Fat Tuesday festivities. What's even weirder is that he has passed a strange coin to Mila Breaux in his final moments. With her best friend Critter Girl at her side, Mila will have to untangle a Mardi Gras mystery of epic proportions-one that will take her from the crawfish fields to the streets of the Big Easy. Can she make sense of a series of clues that are too strange to be believed? A dead body is not something you want to find in the walk-in freezer of a fancy trattoria! But that is just what happens to our humble lettering artist, Mila Breaux. When she is contracted to hand letter the menus for the newest Italian restaurant in her small town of Monchac, Louisiana, it isn't all penne and chianti. Apparently, there is something funky going on at the new joint, and it isn't the expired fish! That's because she's stumbled upon a corpsicle-the body of a pretty young woman who had her whole life ahead of her. And an artist, too! Just like Mila herself. Unfortunately, the Lettering Detective is the only one who seems interested in finding out the truth about what happened to the girl in the freezer, as those that own and run the restaurant seem in a rush to sweep it all under the rug. Mila will need to enlist the help of her best friend, Critter Girl, along with a new furry ally who has decided to join them for this adventure. Can they get to the bottom of what happened to the frozen girl before it is too late? Or will asking too many questions get the gang in hot water?

A Renaissance fair in rural Louisiana is not the kind of place you'd expect to encounter any real danger. Particularly when it comes to the trial and capital punishment of a young woman: the head artisan of the Ren fair's crafting guild. Joined by her trusty friend, Cherie Mamou, a Cajun girl who claims to talk to animals, Mila will need to get to the bottom of what is rotten in the kingdom. And she'll need to do it while steering clear of crooked royalty, fearsome knights, trained peregrine falcons, and a dime-store Shakespeare impersonator who may want to see the girls tarred and feathered! Together, Cherie and Mila seek the truth about the artisan's "mock" execution, and are met at every turn with fierce resistance. Can they figure out the mystery before it is too late, or will they fall victim to the brutality of Medieval times?
