Rita Longknife has had enough of sitting home and watching General Ray Longknife gallivant around the universe. No sooner does she deliver little Al Nuu Longknife than ships start disappearing out on the rim of human space. Is it pirates, or is there something more sinister. Just because half the fleet is back in mothball, Rita's not going to sit around and let this happen. Rita swappes her Attack Transport rank of pilot for a full commission as a Wardhaven Navy captain. She wrestled up enough money to recommission a heavy cruiser. Rita crews it with the beached Attak Transport folks and adds a batch of nannies to keep little Al almost happy. Then she sails away, leaving Ray to wave at her from the pier. Look out guys. Momma bear is loose and she is not happy.

The victory parades are over and half the fleet is back in mothballs. The Navies better start getting them back in Commission! Rita Longknife, commander of the heavy cruiser Exeter, has proof. Proof that there is something else out there. Proof we are not alone in the galaxy. Aboard her ship is evidence that we have blown up an alien ship, and they have blown up one of ours.
