The small town of Hidden Falls is abuzz. Former students, friends, and loved ones are prepping for tonight's big event to honor Ted Quinn's many years of compassionate service. Quinn is reluctant about a night in the spotlight-but is tenderly prodded by Sylvia, mayor of Hidden Falls and Quinn's dearest friend and confidante. Ethan and Nicole won't let the shadows of their pasts stop them from returning to Hidden Falls-but only for Quinn-no matter how much it hurts. Liam, a former student, and Jack, a town newcomer, are both hoping the night works toward their own gain-or, if they'll admit it, their chance for redemption. Like Quinn, Dani and Lauren are mainstays in Hidden Falls. They keep close to home-and have secrets to keep close too. Now it's time. Sylvia is certain Quinn will reappear soon. There's a good explanation, and the event can be saved. Quinn would never ruin this night. At least not willingly. So, did he leave against his will? As more time passes without Quinn, anxiety spreads and suspicions rise. Nicole's reporter nose smells something amiss, and her heart aches that Quinn might be in trouble. Somehow she must help the man who anchored her through her own troubles. Ethan knows he ought to stay and help too-and find out what the cryptic note from Quinn was about. But he can't let the shadows of his past cost him his promising future. Long ago, Ethan and Nicole both quit dreaming they could ever reconcile, but as they cross tentative paths once more, will they allow themselves a chance to at least reminisce?

Finding Quinn's car wrapped around a tree doesn't ease anyone's mind that he'll reappear safe and sound. Could he have walked away from the accident unscathed? Rumors fly, as everyone in Hidden Falls wonders what kind of trouble Quinn must be in-and as they begin to realize the trouble they're in without him. Lauren tries not to panic as she pieces together the plans for the health fair. Ethan risks his job to finagle more time to help Nicole look for Quinn. Young children, students, church members...so many people rely on Quinn to simply be there-and now he's not. If Quinn is okay, why wouldn't he let anyone know-not even Sylvia? That hurts more than she'd like to admit. The stress and fear of it all, combined with her mother's creeping dementia, just might undo her-especially when big trouble comes knocking down the door of her shop.

Sylvia has major cleanup to do, not to mention figuring out if the vandalism to her shop could have something to do with Quinn's disappearance. Ethan and Nicole won't sit around idly waiting for Cooper Elliott to do all the work. Cooper has an investigation on his hands like never before in Hidden Falls, but he sure doesn't mind that it involves frequent communication with Lauren Nock. Liam is hitting wall after wall in finding a solution to his own personal crisis. Does he dare ask Dani for help (if she'd ever answer her phone)? Or even Jack Parker? Jack hears opportunity knocking. Surely all these crises require his legal expertise. But he feels a stronger tug toward his family-those four people who have almost given up on him. Together, they gain access to old records at the cemetery-and learn that Quinn was intrigued by them too. Sylvia wrestles with the decision whether to open the box from her attic-Quinn's box. Meanwhile, she joins Nicole at the historical society to look for clues that might lead them to Quinn. After performing emergency surgery on Lauren, Ethan must make a decision about his family history, one that Jack finds very disappointing. At the end of a stressful day, realizing his future is unsure, Ethan escapes to hike and photograph the falls-never expecting to capture the shocking image that turns up on his camera.
