When it comes to crime in the gambling town of Reno, Freddie is all business. Joan Halliday, an aging chorus girl, has asked for Freddie's help. The chorus-girl's father is being conned by his caretakers, and an investigation is called for.

Freddie O'Neil is called in to solve the murder of the star from Lake Tahoe's hottest Lounge Act, Vince Marina. His ex-wife swears she didn't do it, though it's true things offstage weren't so great between them.

She would rather be flying her private plane, be at home with her cats, or playing Keno at her favorite Casino.. Instead Freddie O'Neal has been hired by an unusual client--her own mother. Freddie is looking for Danny O'Neal, her real father, and tracking him down is her toughest challenge.

In Elko, Nevada, a friendly get-together of cowboy poets turns ugly though when one of the poets is found dead.

Gloria Scope's daughter wanted Freddie to dig up some dirt on Gloria to force a resignation from the Scope computer-chip company. The daughter, her siblings and the company board members want Gloria out of the way.

Those instincts prove deadly accurate when Hayden shows up at a cocktail party with a gun in-hand. When Darla is later found dead in the ex-lover's office, Freddie is pulled into a maze of mind games with a killer.
