Kennedy Bennett comes from a long line of curse weavers. For centuries, her family has plied their trade in Unstable, Massachusetts, and an unconventional small town that's welcomed paranormal practitioners since the dawn of spiritualism. Kennedy has recently struck out on her own, opening an antiques shop in Boston, where her specialty is uncursing and reselling hexed objects. He's not the only one after the necklace, though. And, he's not the only one looking for a curse weaver to fix it. Kennedy's sisters are kidnapped, she finds herself plunged into the underbelly of the magical world where even Aiden soon finds himself in over his head.

It's Memorial Day weekend in Unstable, the paranormal tourist town the curse-weaving Bennett sisters call home. Kennedy has invited luck-worker Aiden Connolly and his younger brother, Rian. She's also invited Venus, an immortal once worshipped as the goddess of love. Venus earned her reputation honestly. There's nothing she likes more than matchmaking, and the three Bennett sisters are ripe for her particular skills. The trick to getting Kennedy and Aiden together is to give them a mystery to solve. Just grab a local cold case and add a few red herrings. They'll be so happy working together again that they'll never know the difference. Or, that's the theory. But, when the mystery turns into a real one, Venus's plan may end up doing more harm than good.

Crying Girl is one of a quartet of haunted legendary paintings. Kennedy knows that the "ghosts" are actually curses-fatal ones. The paintings have been missing for years, and Kennedy is thrilled at the chance to uncurse one... until Crying Girl disappears before they can collect it. Kennedy and Aiden soon discover that the painting hasn't been randomly whisked out of their reach. Someone used it to lure them in, and now that they've snatched the bait, they've been snared in a trap. Either the thief gets what they want... or the four paintings are going to find their way back into the world, and Kennedy and Aiden will be responsible for the deadly chaos the cursed portraits wreak.
