Chief Beckner took the reins of a department in turmoil and suffering from widespread criticism in the wake of the 1996 JonBenet Ramsey murder. Given the propensity of strange and unusual happenings in Boulder, the Department and Chief Beckner often found themselves in the news. Through his leadership, Chief Beckner was able to bring order to the department. Most members of the local media respected Chief Beckner for his honesty and straightforward approach.Mark still resides in Colorado with his wife, Sally, but they spend the winter months in Surprise, Arizona. They have two children, Kimberlee and Chad, and five grandchildren. When he is not writing crime thrillers, Mark spends time enjoying his family, traveling, bicycling, and playing softball and pickleball.
