Set in 1969 West Germany; the deployment of the newly developed Redeye weapon system is positioned in the 3rd Armored Division's 1st, 48th Infantry Battalion. The Redeye technology would become a very important part of American military history.
Rick Fontain, the main character, is drafted just out of high school. He had been employed by the Bell System for just over a year. Summoned by his friends and neighbors he is inducted into the US Army. A series of aptitude tests marks him for citizenship in the CIA. Fortin deftly combines a multitude of very likable fictional characters with some of the actual people he served with.
A very Cold War takes the men of the 3rd Armored Division through a series of operations in the late 1960s. Carefully crafted CIA military maneuvers delay and ultimately prevent a Russian invasion. The infamous Fulda Gap is the center stage of the action. The success of operation Fulda Cold changes our world forever.

Redeye Fulda Cold

Part 1 of the Cold War (Fortin) series
I was receiving an education that normally would take most career NCOs years to
gain. I was being groomed for something but not sure for what. They knew I was
getting out in a few months. Maybe they hoped I would change my mind.
I had always supposed there were worse ways to spend your life. I didn't think that was true any longer. The decision making and the acceptance of responsibility was becoming second nature. Truth be told, I was really starting to like this time in service. The company of soldiers was the strongest feeling of friendship I had ever experienced. I wondered if it was because the stakes were always so high, the individual trust held tight but always given with purpose. We became one and counted on each other for everything.

Stinger: Operation Cyclone

Part 2 of the Cold War (Fortin) series
A Grunt Level View of Charlie Wilson's War
A Cold War adventure that peers inside the exploits of Congressman Charlie Wilson and CIA's Task Force Chief Gust Avrakotos. Strange bedfellows they were… their alliance proved to be one of the most successful partnerships in the history of the CIA. Stinger: Operation Cyclone centers on the results of these efforts.
The adventure begins with the election of Ronald Regan in 1979. This was the same year that the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. Early in 1982 POTUS called for a plan of action to arm and finance the Jihadi warriors known as the Mujahideen. Operation Cyclone was the code name assigned to this project.
