Chiara Corelli Mystery

The victim, a gay man, is posed with a rosary in his hands, the smell of incense in the air and Gregorian chants playing in the background. While Corelli and Parker search for leads, Kate Burke, the lesbian Speaker of the City Council asks for an update on the investigation. Thinking Burke is playing politics, Corelli ignores the request. In the meantime, two more bodies are found, both laid out in the same way. Pressured by the chief, Corelli goes to Kate's office where a photograph of the speaker with a group of friends catches her eye. Corelli recognizes the three victims and, to her horror, three others. Suddenly the case becomes personal. Fearing a serial killer is picking off the people in the photograph, fearing the next victim will be someone she loves, Corelli races to find the murderer before he kills again.

NYPD Detectives Chiara Corelli and P.J. Parker are assigned what should be a straight-forward murder investigation. But what seems to be the simple murder of a man found in a park gets more complicated when they identify him as Ned Rich, a somewhat paranoid investigative reporter who seems to be living above his means. The more they dig, the more victims of Rich's blackmail they find. And figuring out which one killed him seems like an impossible task. But then they stumble on the project Rich was working on at the time of his death-a not so white supremacist and a threat to our democracy-and the focus of the investigation turns to people who will do anything to protect their reputations and the secrecy of their traitorous goals. Undeterred by the threats and attacks, Corelli and Parker battle to drag the traitors into the light-and put their lives on the line to defend all they believe in.

But the brutal murder of Alessandra Moreau, a singer on track to becoming a superstar, in the living room of New York State Senator Leigh Drayman, a trans woman, is anything but. Besides Drayman, only Moreau's twin sister and her wife knew she was a trans woman, so Corelli and Parker focus their attention on three suspects-the agent/manager stealing from her, a man from her attorney's office who assaulted her, and H, a rejected lover who she fears. And when they find thirteen trans women murdered in exactly the manner as Moreau in just over two years, their focus changes and they enlist the senator's help to get the NYPD to set up a task force. With the murder of two more trans women in New York City, the killer seems to be taunting them. But they are no closer to finding him then they were after Moreau was murdered. As they dig deeper into those early murders, they eliminate suspects and begin to focus on the one with motive, means, and opportunity.
