The Haunting of Millie Nettles
by Steve Higgs
Part 1 of the Blue Moon Investigations: Appalachia series
Investigate weird goings on for a living? What kind of nutbag would do that? Well, the kind with bills to pay, actually. In the quiet seclusion of the Appalachia mountains, something evil stirs. Home to generations of witches, the entire region knows the lore, and everyone knows someone with at least a suggestion of the supernatural in their family. So when Edgar Corey, one time FBI field agent and all-round recluse, is called upon to help the sheriff with what sounds like a supernatural case, he automatically turns him down. Or wished he had because all too soon he's up to his neck in a case that throws everything he believes into question. Is there something ancient and malevolent in the woods? Can he stop it if there is? With darkness descending, Edgar must fight to get to the truth and one thing is for sure – they all wish Millie Nettles had left the thing she found in the ground. Investigate the paranormal? Why didn't he just say no? Steve has been writing for years without producing anything that he believed was worth reading. Is he overly critical of his work? Probably, but having taken five years to finish the first book he took only five months for the second and is now working on three more stories simultaneously. He describes his current experience as that of a storyteller with ideas falling uncontrollably out of his ears. He keeps a notepad on his person at all times in case another idea comes to him and can be found scribbling pretty much any time he comes to a stop.He lives not far from where his books are based, but although he was born and raised in Kent he spent most of this adult life as a soldier deployed to various points of the globe. Now retired from the military he has the world's most perfect son and a beautiful wife who is completely convinced his description of the single women in his book is the early stages of a mid-life crisis. It's not love, honest.Influenced by Jim Butcher, Stephen King, Kim Harrison, Derek Landy, Lee Child and Janet Evanovich to name a few, his work will always be a mix of action and thriller mixed with situational comedy. The central character's parents are in no way based on his own. Definitely, definitely not.

Last Bite
by Steve Higgs
Part 4 of the Blue Moon Investigations: Appalachia series
Hidden in the seclusion of the Appalachian Mountains, the remote settlements are perfect targets for those who wish to prey on the weak … the human. Hired to investigate a mysterious bloodletting case, everything indicates Edgar is dealing with a clan of mobile vampires. He can't take the case though, his ordeal with the cult has left him close to bedridden, but that's not the case for close friend and secret crush, Poppy. Poppy is drawn to weird stuff, so when Edgar foolishly tells her she is not to get involved, she predictably does the opposite. But does Poppy know what she is getting into? Working undercover, all too soon she finds herself at the heart of the next attack. The stakes are higher than she anticipated, the puppet master behind it all might actually be a vampire, and now she has no way out other than to uncover the truth. Get ready for chilling thrills in the wilderness, we are heading back to the Appalachian Mountains! Steve has been writing for years without producing anything that he believed was worth reading.
