As snow falls during the night, a small village is raided. All the men and boys, even the infants are murdered. The women and girls are taken. When a survivor of the brutal raid relates the tragic horror to the residents of Woodmyst, Tomas Warde leads a small group of men to rescue captured women and children. Friends and alliances are made along the way. Soon, a band of warriors embark upon a journey to pursue the ruthless abductor known as The Sovereign. However, they soon learn that while they are hunting the enemy, they are being watched themselves, but by whom or what unseen entity in the unknown wilderness?
