Jed
Part 2 of the Protector (Connellan) series
Beth has been living in the shadows for two years, constantly looking over her shoulder, trying to protect her four-year-old daughter, Maisy. Ever since she accidentally uncovered a trove of child exploitation material on her boss's computer-evidence that implicated not only him but other powerful figures-her life has been a nightmare. With her brother, the only person she could rely on, killed in the line of duty, Beth is truly alone, hiding in a rundown apartment in a desperate attempt to stay off the radar of those who want her silenced.Working at a small café, Beth barely makes enough to survive, but it's the only job that allows her to stay under the radar. Every day, she serves coffee and waffles to a man who stands out from the rest-a towering, rugged mountain of a man named Jed, who has a way of sneaking food to Maisy with a wink and a smile that suggests there's some warmth beneath his tough exterior. When Beth suffers a serious accident, it's Jed who comes to her rescue. As he takes her and Maisy into his care, Beth reveals the dark secret that has kept her on the run. Jed, an ex-special forces soldier turned successful entrepreneur, is no stranger to danger. Haunted by his own demons and a past scarred by loss and betrayal, Jed vows to protect Beth and Maisy, determined to take down those who have made their lives a living hell. But as they work together to untangle the web of corruption and danger surrounding Beth, they discover that their lives are more intertwined than they ever imagined. Both carry wounds from their pasts-Jed from a childhood marked by abandonment and pain, and Beth from the loss of her brother and the fear of losing her daughter. As they face their enemies and confront the darkness that haunts them, they find solace and strength in each other.Jed is a story of survival, redemption, and the healing power of love. As Beth and Jed navigate the treacherous waters of their pasts and present, they begin to realize that their meeting was no accident. In the midst of chaos and danger, they find a safe harbour in each other-a love that was destined to be. Vicki was born in Orange, NSW. When she was two years old her family moved to Dapto, a southern suburb of Wollongong. She was kicked out of pre-school at the age of four (for reasons that she will keep to herself). When she was sixteen she moved with her parents and two sisters (Vicki is the typically misunderstood middle child) to the ACT where, ironically she studied Child Care so she could work in a pre-school.Now, at the age of 45 she still lives in Canberra with her husband and three adult/teenage children. Vicki works full time (not in the child care industry!) and is an avid baker. She spends her time taxiing her kids around and baking cup cakes for all the kids who constantly fill the house. Vicki has always enjoyed writing and is now taking the time to put her stories to print. You can contact Vicki via email atvickiconnellanauthor@gmail.com with any questions or feedback on her book.
