North American Pelicans
by Lynn M. Stone
Part of the Nature Watch series
With short, stubby legs, long narrow wings, and large throat pouches, North American pelicans are unique and easily recognizable birds. Found throughout the northwest, pelicans can often be seen diving towards the water or paddling around looking for fish in large groups. Endangered over the past several decades, pelicans are beginning to thrive once more thanks to nesting refuges and protection from hunting.

Tigers
by Lynn M. Stone
Part of the Nature Watch series
The tiger is one of natures most perfect predators. With their long teeth,(up to 2.5 inches!) tigers have killed more people than any other mammal. They live in a wide variety of habitats, with temperatures ranging from 30 to 118 degrees F. In spite of their adaptable nature and skillful hunting, tigers are nearly extinct. Three of the eight varieties of tigers are completely extinct, with the other five precariously hanging on. Humans have hunted tigers for centuries and are now destroying their habitats.
