Red Boy

When the red cloud cleared, a demon, Red Boy, disguised himself as a seven-year-old child tied to a tree. Xuanzang compassionately untied the child and got kidnapped by a sudden gust of wind. The monkey was informed by the land and mountain deities that the demon was the son of Bull Demon King. He and Pigsy rushed to fight Red Boy but were almost killed by his fire. The monkey transformed into the Bull Demon King but was debunked by Red Boy. In the end, Guanyin subdued Red Boy with a lotus pedestal made of swords. The monkey rescued his master, and the team resumed itsjourney.

The Teal Buffalo Demon

The monkey, Pigsy, and Sandy finally saved Xuanzang, and then they went to a Taoist temple owned by the Multiple-Eyed Monster, the brother of the spider demons. The demon disguised himself as a Taoist and offered the group poisoned tea. Xuanzang, Pigsy, and Sandy all drank the tea. The monkey got so angry that he killed the spider demons and fought the demon. The demon was hard to defeat because his belly had thousands of eyes emitting golden light. The monkey eventually defeated the demon with the help of Pilanpo Bodhisattva, and the demon turned into the original form, a centipede.

The Motherhood River

The Ginseng Fruit

Xuanzang and his disciples arrived at Wuzhuang Temple, the abode of Immortal Zhenyuan. In the temple was a special ginseng fruit tree that produced only 30 fruits every 10,000 years. Immortal Zhenyuan was away when they arrived at the temple, but he had instructed his two servants to treat Xuanzang to two ginseng fruits. However, Xuanzang was frightened at the sight of the fruit which resembled a newborn infant and refused to eat it. Pigsy asked the monkey to steal three other fruits for themselves. When the servants realized that fruits were missing, they accused Xuanzang of theft and began abusing the group. The enraged monkey destroyed the ginseng fruit tree and led the team to escape at night. When Zhenyuan returned to his temple and learned what happened, he captured the pilgrims and asked them to revive the ginseng fruit tree. The monkey asked Guanyin for help and brought the tree back to life.

The Imposter Buddha

Xuanzang was caught by the Yellow Brows Demon who impersonated the Buddha. The monkey was trapped inside the demon's golden cymbals. The monkey escaped alone and invited various divine forces to help him apprehend the demon, but the demon used the cummerbund to trap all the reinforcements. The monkey was depressed. Maitreya came and asked the monkey to lure the demon out and turn into a big watermelon. The demon was duped into eating it and Maitreya finally subdued him and rescued the deities. The demon turned out to be Maitreya's escaped servant. They went back to the Land of Ultimate Bliss on the Western Continent and the pilgrims continued their journey.

The Palm-Leaf Fan

The monkey played a trick to get into her stomachand forced her to give up the palm-leaf fan. However, she gave him a fake one that only fueled the flames. The monkey then transformed into Bull Demon King to get the real fan. Upon hearing the news, Bull Demon King disguised himself as Pigsy to take back the fan, leading to a fight with the monkey. With the help of deities, the monkey finally defeated Bull Demon King, got the fan from Princess Iron Fan and put out the flames.

After Guanyin came, the demon was forced to revert to his true appearance, which was the steed of Guanyin. The monkey released the queen, helping the royal family reunite.

A big turtle ferried the pilgrims across the river to repay them for helping him retake his residence from the monster.

Pigsy cleared the road after the villagers fed him enough that he became a massive pig. Finally, the team passed through the mountain.

So, the monkey went to Heaven to invite King Li and Nezha to subdue her. As it turned out, the demon was the Golden-Nosed Albino Rat Spirit.

Disguising himself as his master, the monkey took many hearts out of his own chest to expose the demon's lie. The monkey and Pigsy chased the demon to his den and were about to kill him when the Star of Longevity arrived and showed them the demon's true appearance, a white deer. The demon was previously the deity's mount. The children were then sent back to the kingdom. Delighted, the families expressed their gratitude to the pilgrims.

To maintain control of the unruly monkey, Guanyin instructed Xuanzang to put a golden hoop on the monkey's head and recite the hoop-tightening spell to punish any disobedience. The spell caused the monkey to writhe in agony and promise to behave. Guanyin also subdued a white dragon and transformed him into a horse to carry Xuanzang on his journey.

Local bandits got the word and stole the trunk containing the group in the middle of the night. However, soldiers noticed the burglars and fought to get the trunk back and presented it to the king. The monkey snuck out and shaved everyone in the royal palace bald with razors. The king was shocked the next day and realized that he had made many mistakes. When the group exited the trunk, the king decided to honor Buddhism and let the pilgrims leave safely.

Finding the monster difficult to defeat, the monkey turned to Guanyin for help. After instructing the monkey to turn himself into an elixir, Guanyin coaxed the monster to eat it. The monkey entered the monster's stomach and tortured him until he handed over the robe. Guanyin subdued the monster and made him the guard deity of her mountain.

The Yellow-Robe Demon

The White-Bone Demon repeatedly took the appearance of a human to deceive Xuanzang. The monkey returned and fought the demon. He assumed it was a god of Heaven, so he rushed to Heaven to complain to the Jade Emperor. The Jade Emperor ordered the Heavenly Master to find out who it was. They discovered that it was Kuixing, who had sneaked down to the earthly world, and recalled him back to Heaven. The monkey sent the princess back to the Baoxiang Kingdom and broke the demon's spell on Xuanzang. Xuanzang and the monkey reconciled.

The Jade Emperor then ordered the deities of rain, clouds, and wind to deliver rain to Fengxian County, driving away the prolonged drought.

The Leopard Demon

When the monkey went to seek revenge on the demon, he discovered that Xuanzang was still alive, so he used sleep bugs to put the demons to sleep while he rescued Xuanzang. He then captured the demon, and Pigsy burned the cave.

Later, the team conquered the dragon king's palace and retrieved the sarira. The treasure was put back on top of the pagoda and started to shine again.

Everyone was delighted that from then on there was no need to raise money making sacrifice.

At night, the monkey pretended to be the spirit of Mr. Kou, the spirit of the magistrate's uncle, and then an immortal, and told the people to drop the charges and release them. The next day, the team was released from prison with apologies. The monkey brought Mr. Kou back from the dead so the truth could come out.

The skeptical monkey demanded the pig demon burn his cave and took him to meet Xuanzang. Xuanzang untied the pig demon and took him as his second disciple. It turned out that the pig demon had been a heavenly marshal but was banished to the earthly world for his misbehavior and was given the religious name "Wuneng" by Guanyin. He was also called "Pigsy."
