The Sender family's escape from East Germany in 1977 turned into a tragedy. The film joins Christoph Sender on his truth-seeking journey, meeting old friends and for the first time ever examining the classified STASI-files that the GDR-secret police issued on his family. An emotional story of a family that puts everything at stake to live in freedom during the heydays of oppression in the GDR.
