About
Luke is an iconic writer of Western novels, although he's been in a slump. He lives in NYC and is a city boy – his fans have no clue he's never ridden a horse or been west of the East River. When a famous historical Dude Ranch offers to host a PR weekend for him, to meet his fans, his agent urges him to do it and he reluctantly agrees. The Dude Ranch is run by Jenny, the granddaughter of a once-famous cowboy, a la Gene Autry. She's promoting the weekend not because she's a fan of Luke, but because the place is going under and she's desperately trying to save it. Luke buys a stiff pair of cowboy boots, belt and hat at the airport, arrives at the Dude Ranch barely able to walk in the boots and jeans that are chafing him. Jenny sees right through him. He's a fraud, a complete fish out of water. The disastrous weekend culminates when he's forced to sit on a mechanical bull for a photo op and is thrown instantly into a food table. A doctor tells him he has a concussion and can't fly for a week. Luke is forced to stay on with Jenny at the Ranch. As time passes, his truths come out as do Jenny's. Luke slowly transforms from a virtual cowboy into a real one, as he works with Jenny to save the Ranch and they fall in love in the process.
