Twelve-year-old Katy Carr is adventurous and mischievous, and although she has a good heart, she often finds herself in trouble for breaking the rules or losing her temper. With dreams of growing up to be someone famous and important, Katy charges through her childhood until, one day, an accident leaves her bedridden, and she must learn the value of patience, thoughtfulness and kindness.
The immense popularity of What Katy Did upon its publication inspired several sequels, including What Katy Did at School and What Katy Did Next. The book has also been adapted into several TV movies, including one from 2009 starring Allison Pill and Michael Cera.
