The Lost War

The Lost War, first published in 1946 shortly after the end of World War II, provides a rare perspective of Japan during the war. The author, a Japanese-American reporter, describes his wartime experiences in America, including times in several internment camps, and also in Japan. He witnessed the effects of Allied fire-bombings on Japanese cities and the aftermath of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombs. The book also provides insight into the thinking of Japanese leaders that led to war and the attack on Pearl Harbor, insights into the daily life of the populace, and how propaganda was used to control and influence the Japanese people.
