Mrs. Crowley, a pretty, little woman of twenty-eight, very beautifully dressed, vivacious and gesticulative, is watching her quietly. The Rev. James Carbery, a young curate, tall and impressive in appearance, ponderous and self-important, is very, immaculate in a silk waistcoat and a large gold cross.
