About

Triggered by the failure of Project Liberty, a climatic catastrophe turns Earth into an unforgiving arctic wasteland, forcing survivors to live underground. Looking for refuge, Thea and her family find the Community, an isolated subterranean city, and plead for mercy. But entrance comes at a cost. They must offer something the Community needs. Thea wears technology that promises an escape from subterranean life, and her children would provide the genetic diversity the Community needs. The ruling committee sees great profit in what Thea brings and intends to exploit both. But Thea, seeing their greed, will give up neither.

As Brick, the chief interrogator, discovers who Thea is, he questions the Community's core creed-work, efficiency, and profit define life's purpose. He asks why he has never said "I love you" to anyone. Has he been a slave his whole life? The Law forbids these questions. Every Community member is required to self-subjugate. The Law maintains order and safety. The Committee takes Thea's children from her to get what they want.

Tensions skyrocket as Anteaters arrive at the Community's main gate. The committee refuses to listen to Thea's plan for an alternative to war. Instead, they will sacrifice Thea and the Community to save themselves. The Community is divided; the battle is between lies and facts. It is a combat between love and loyalty to the Law. Can ignorance be overcome?
Anteaters are at their doorstep, but are they the real enemy? What must Thea sacrifice to win the return of her children? Can the battle between freedom and slavery be won?
