FOREWORD by Erwin W. Lutzer
What a brilliant idea.
Imagine a daily devotional that takes you through the whole Bible in a year, showing you the full storyline, describing all the key events, and helping you apply its teachings to your life. Truth be told, for many people, reading through the whole Bible in a year is difficult; many who begin with the best of intentions stop somewhere around the book of Leviticus, and thus miss out on the continuing narrative. This devotional is a solution to their dilemma.
To further clarify: Imagine a devotional that enables you to see the Bible at 30,000 feet, describing its key people and explaining its events and teachings, traveling on a journey from one highlight to another each day. Little wonder that when Skip preached his series of messages on this, the church was packed with people sitting on the floor. Many of us have benefited from his previous book, The Bible from 30,000 Feet, and this devotional now lets us digest the big picture in daily bite-sized pieces.
I've known Skip Heitzig for many years; I've preached in his church in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and what I discovered was a congregation that was genuinely excited to hear God's Word taught with clarity and faithfulness. There is a reason why this church is vibrant: The Word of God, faithfully and consistently taught, is a draw for serious Christians who long to be spiritually fed and instructed on how the Bible is to be understood and applied in our confused culture.
You may be a new Christian or a seasoned saint who has read and studied the Bible for many years. No matter where you are on your spiritual journey, we all must relearn how the Bible is essentially one book, with its individual books leading us to worship and fellowship with God. And we must be reminded about how God guided the events of history that led to the high cost of our redemption. This devotional will help all of us to that end.
An additional note: This is a wonderful resource for that friend of yours who might not yet be a Christian but is interested in a readable and relatable overview of what the Bible is all about. For many people, the Bible is a closed book; this devotional will take them on a journey by opening the Bible to them and leading them on
