What if the key to solving a murder wasn't a smoking gun, but a haunted melody?
For disillusioned detective Milo Corrigan, the city's song has always been a mournful blues tune played in a minor key. But when the rain-soaked body of famed jazz singer Lena Valente turns up in an alley behind the Blue Vesper jazz club, he hears a new, discordant note of deceit. The official story is an overdose-a neat, tidy lie that everyone, especially his superiors, wants to believe.
But Corrigan sees what the others won't: the signs of a professional hit. Armed with a single piece of blood-stained sheet music and a gut feeling that won't let him go, he takes the case against the express orders of the powerful and polished Inspector Victor Harlan, a man who prefers his city's secrets to remain buried.
His investigation plunges him into a smoky underworld of shifting alliances, where loyalty is bought and sold. He must navigate a maze of slippery informants, a deadly turf war, and the club's enigmatic owner, Gia Moretti, a woman with secrets as deep as her pockets. The deeper he digs, the clearer it becomes that Lena's murder is just the first verse in a symphony of corruption that reaches from the darkest corners of the mob to the highest echelons of the city.
Hunted by his own department and the city's most ruthless criminals, Corrigan is a lone detective in a world where the truth is the most dangerous secret of all. Can he unravel the notes of this shadow song before he's permanently silenced?
Shadow Song is a gripping, atmospheric noir thriller that will keep you guessing until the final, shattering note. Perfect for fans of Raymond Chandler, Michael Connelly, and modern, hard-boiled detective fiction.
