Growing up in a mixed Greek and German household, the author was raised in a loud Chicago home shaped by tradition, contradiction, and unspoken rules. As the youngest of six, he learned early how to stand out and how to survive.
Through vivid memories of family rituals, Catholic schooling, and the pop culture of the 1960s and 1970s, this memoir captures both the warmth and the confinement of childhood. Beneath it all lie experiences of bullying, trauma, and alienation that quietly shaped his sense of identity.
Adolescence brings rebellion through drugs, risk, and restless searching, but also an unexpected refuge in theater. Onstage, he finds confidence, belonging, and a voice that had long been silenced.
Threaded with themes of longing, self discovery, and the pursuit of the impossible dream, this memoir is an unflinching reflection on resilience, creativity, and the courage it takes to tell one's truth.
