Let's be honest: HR has a reputation problem.
Too many people see it as the "Department of No," the place you go when something's already gone wrong. Buried in paperwork, drowning in compliance, and reactive instead of strategic, HR often gets sidelined when it should be leading.
But it doesn't have to be this way.
HR Meets FUN & FUNctionality is the practical guide that shows you how to transform HR from a reactive cost center into a strategic powerhouse that people actually trust and value. Whether you're a solo HR professional in a small business or part of a larger corporate team, this book gives you the tools to make HR work better for everyone.
Inside, you'll discover:
• Why people are more important than process, and how to design systems that serve humans, not bureaucracy
• The onboarding framework that improves 90-day retention by 32% (backed by research)
• How to build manager capability using lessons from Google's Project Oxygen
• The truth about culture, and why your values poster isn't working
• Training that actually sticks, not just checkbox compliance
• How to let people go with dignity, the conversations no one teaches you
• Real tools that don't suck, from one-page performance reviews to employee handbooks people actually read
This isn't another theory-heavy textbook. It's a conversation with someone who's been in the trenches: handling difficult terminations, rebuilding toxic cultures, being the only HR person in the building, and figuring out what actually works.
Each chapter ends with "The FUNctional Fix," simple, actionable steps you can implement immediately. No massive budget required. No executive buy-in needed to start. Just practical changes that make a real difference.
Perfect for:
• HR professionals who want to lead, not just react
• Managers who need to understand what good HR looks like
• Business owners building people practices from scratch
• Anyone who believes work should be better
HR isn't broken. The way we've been doing it is.
It's time to make HR functional, human, and yes, even fun. Let's get started.
