Exchange Student

Twelve British exchange students travelled to the People's Republic of China in the late 1980s. Their unusual destination was Taiyuan City in Shanxi Province. One of them took a camera with him to document the experience. Gary Heath captured affecting snapshots of classmates, teachers and citizenry in Taiyuan. He also travelled widely and took some remarkable photos of places now changed forever. Including ninety fascinating photos with captions, this book tells the story of a group of exchange students abroad, shows you what Taiyuan looked like before full economic modernisation, and brings the story full circle with images taken on a recent return visit to China.
