Dr. Justin Wright has spent his career confronting the darkness inside other people. Now danger has entered his family, and every answer threatens to reveal something he may not survive.
His son Michael is finally home after seven years in captivity, but the boy Justin remembers has returned guarded, secretive, and seemingly untouched by compassion. When Frank Devlin - the patient who murdered Justin's other son - claims Michael may be responsible for another death, Justin is forced to ask the question no father should ever face: Is his traumatized son hiding a terrible secret, or is a master manipulator tearing the Wright family apart once again?
Then Richard Davis walks into Justin's Manhattan office.
Richard says he needs help controlling the rage that consumes him. Crowded sidewalks, careless strangers, and minor frustrations ignite a hatred he can no longer contain. Justin sees a disturbed young man desperate to change. What he does not see is the history connecting them - or the revenge Richard has spent years imagining.
As Justin tries to repair his relationship with Michael and understand the patient sitting across from him, threats gather on every side. Inside Bellevue's psychiatric unit, Nathan - Frank Devlin's most dangerous identity - draws the troubled and calculating Jade into his schemes. At home, Mandy struggles to believe the family she fought to restore can withstand another betrayal. And Detective Katy Parsons begins to suspect that Richard's anger is not random at all.
It has a target.
With old crimes resurfacing, loyalties shifting, and vengeance closing in, Justin must separate trauma from deception before the people he loves become casualties of his past. But Richard knows exactly what Justin did years ago - and he has decided that therapy will not heal him.
Only retribution will.
