A corrupt cop. A town bound by silence. And a dark secret the ocean could no longer hide.
"An atmospheric, nail-biting psychological thriller that hooks you from the first page and refuses to let go." Ten years ago, three teenagers walked onto the jagged, fog-shrouded beaches of Blackwood. Only two came back.
Clara Hayes has spent a decade running from the memories of the night her best friend, Lily, vanished into the freezing Pacific surf. Forced to return to her fading coastal hometown to care for her ailing father, Clara expects to face nothing more than the ghosts of her past and the whispers of an insular community. Until a violent autumn storm changes everything.
The gale shears away the face of the Blackwood cliffs, triggering a massive landslide that exposes a secret the earth can no longer hold. But it isn't Lily's body the tide washes ashore-it is a skeleton wearing a rusted police badge, with a bullet hole straight through the chest.
The discovery reopens a dangerous cold case, and the town's ruthless new sheriff immediately turns his suspicion toward Clara's fragile father and her reclusive childhood friend, Jonah. To clear her family's name, Clara must piece together the fractured timeline of that fateful night. But her father's mind is rapidly slipping away, Jonah is guarding his own dark secrets, and her own memories are dangerously incomplete.
As another massive storm gathers force on the horizon, Clara races against time to uncover the truth of what the water left behind-before the killer ensures her silence is permanent.
