Why Le Pen and the far-right are conquering France-and how Macron has paved the way
Reactionary and racist ideologues are increasingly present in the French media. Violent fascist groups are gaining ground and confidence on streets across the county. How did this happen? Why Fascism Is on the Rise in France explains the stunning electoral victories of Marine Le Pen and her far right National Rally party and convincingly argues that Emmanuel Macron's rule has paved the way for the ascendance of fascism in France. Ugo Palheta shows that the fascist threat is rooted in a triple radicalization-neoliberal, authoritarian, and racist-of the French ruling class. Ugo Palheta is currently a lecturer at the University of Lille and the co-editor of the online journal Contretemps, the main radical left journal in France.
