What do you do when you find out your intimate partner, girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, or husband has been sexually assaulted? There is a global epidemic of sexual violence. Estimates put the number of people who have or will experience sexual violence in their lifetime over 1 Billion worldwide. When Your Partner Says #MeToo: Your Role and Responsibilities In Their Healing Process, is the personal account of how a U.S. Navy submarine veteran helped his wife recover after she was raped. It's raw, authentic, and incredibly vulnerable. The author, Shaun Hamilton, shares everything he's learned about being the partner of a survivor of sexual violence over his 20+ years of relationship experience and over a decade of research. This is the book he wished he could have read when he was 15 years old, after he found out that his girlfriend in high school had suffered child sexual abuse at the hands of her step-father. Most resources on sexual violence, sexual assault, rape survivorship, and gender violence write from a clinical perspective or shy away from talking about the truth head on. Not this book. This book covers in detail what to do in the event your partner has a PTSD reaction or full blown panic attack during sex because of the trauma they've suffered. It illustrates why the intimate partner has the most important role in the healing process of a survivor of sexual violence. Shaun takes the reader through vivid lessons about communication, the need for emotional intelligence and self regulation skills, sexual education, and how to spot and counter-act rape cultures where they exist. The most important thing this book does for humanity is that it helps build a bridge of communication between survivors of sexual violence and their intimate partner(s).
