A Walk in the Forest introduced the enormously talented Maria Dek, and When I Am Big is a beguiling follow up to her first success. Charming illustrations and text encourage young children to explore what they can do as they grow up. The adventurous child imagines "I will tie my shoes all by myself, make 3 knots with big bows"; to eat twenty pizzas in one sitting, or walk animals, eight at a time, while teaching them tricks. When I Am Big is also an unconventional counting book, as it goes all the way to twenty-five. The result is a book that nourishes a child's curiosity, confidence, and delight in the world's wonders.
A whimsically illustrated counting book that nourishes a child's curiosity, confidence, and delight in the world through numbers.
What will you do when you are big? How many scoops of ice cream will you eat? How many puddles will you jump over? And what time will you go to bed?
Charming illustrations accompanying the text in When I Am Big to encourage young children to explore and quantify all the fun and adventurous things they can do as they grow up. Through first-person narration, readers will follow along to declare things like "I will tie my shoes all by myself, and make 3 knots with big bows.", "I will jump over 9 puddles, all of them at once!", or "I will build a roller coaster that has 17 cars."
When I Am Big is a counting picture book from numbers 1 through 25. When your reader has mastered that, look for When I Am Bigger, the companion counting book from Maria Dek, to count even greater numbers and reach more imaginative heights, with numbers 10 through 100.
