Hope has a secret-and it's the kind most kids would dream of. She has a gift that lets her control how people see her. At school, she's confident, popular, and exactly who everyone wants her to be. At home, she feels invisible-like a background character in her own life. But everything changes when Taylor shows up. She's quiet, awkward, and completely unaffected by Hope's gift. No matter what Hope does, Taylor sees through her...and she's clearly hiding a secret of her own. With her best friend Everett by her side, Hope tries to figure out what Taylor is keeping hidden. But the closer she gets, the more her carefully crafted image starts to crack, until she's forced to face a question she's never dared to ask: Who is she, really, when no one's watching?
A heartfelt story about identity, empathy, and courage, What They Want to See is a perfect pick for readers who've ever felt unseen, misunderstood, or like they had to be someone else to belong.
