On April 14, 2021, Pastor Devon Dixon received the call every parent dreads: his son had died by suicide. What Pain Taught Me is Devon's honest, soul-baring memoir after unimaginable loss. Becoming a parent is one of life's greatest gifts-and its greatest risk. You bring a life into the world, only to realize how deeply that world can shape and scar someone you love. Devon and his wife were left to grapple with a reality no parent is ever prepared for: the death of their firstborn son. No words could ease the grief. No hugs, prayers, or gestures could mend the shattered pieces. The only remaining truth was simple: No one understands what you're going through. As Devon sank into his grief, he found himself teetering on the edge of choices he never thought he'd make-ones that would deepen his sorrow and challenge his faith, his marriage, his ministry, and his sense of identity. But it was in that darkness that he discovered something sacred: pain can be more than suffering. It can be a teacher. This powerful memoir follows Devon's journey through heartbreak, despair, and ultimately redemption. With honesty and faith, he shares how God met him in the silence and reshaped his life through grace. What Pain Taught Me is a story for anyone navigating grief, loss, or questioning where God is in their suffering. Devon's story reminds us that God never wastes our pain, and He's not done with us yet.
