She escaped the altar. She escaped the crown. She could not escape this. The holy city was never supposed to burn. The fire was supposed to belong to the Judge - not leave ashes. Right?
Kae has barely learned what it means to be the Judge when she sees the flames. The Word of Highest burns inside her. Visions of Judges long dead rise in her sleep. And Kae'Dinah must learn to face a fire within her that grows whether she's ready or not. But before she can master it, the past comes calling. Anima has not forgotten its missing princess.
When a royal summons arrives bearing a terrifying ultimatum, Kae'Dinah is forced back toward the very kingdom that once marked her for sacrifice. She must ride toward the border - toward her family, toward old loyalties beginning to fracture, and toward a darkness she never saw coming. They've burned enough. And some things have to burn first.
What Burns First is the second book in the Eyes of Fire series - a story about the cost of calling, the discerning of fire, and how you respond when everything begins to turn to ash.
