About

When Harriet Denison was in her mid-20s, she had just returned from a two-year commitment with the Peace Corps, teaching in Tanzania. Most of her friends had settled into professions or raising families, and she realized she had taken a different path-one she did not regret.
A longing for travel and exploring the world has inspired Harriet ever since she was a youngster, fascinated with the photos in National Geographic. A small graduation inheritance had opened different opportunities for her, and she was ready to travel. Harriet and her husband decided to bicycle from Oregon to Mexico with no set plans, just the desire to let their adventure be like the open road-long and unhindered. Vagabonds chronicles their adventures to Mexico in 1969 and 1970. For those two years they faced thrills and challenges, completely immersed in the adventure.
