Seventeen-year-old Gracie Jackson is hanging on by a thread. Caring for her sick mother while working a full-time job at the Shakes n' Slaw and trying to finish high school is more than anyone should be expected to handle. Plus, she's so lonely it hurts. That's why when the new guy at school, Joshua Cadman, enters her life, she's leery-but interested. Josh and Gracie quickly build a relationship, and with Josh's dad, Ben, Gracie finally finds the family she's longing for. But just when she begins to trust, Josh reveals his truth and the prophecy he believes-that the complementary birthmarks that he and Gracie have prove that they are destined to be together and to save the world. Panicked, Gracie is left to pick up the pieces of her ever-crumbling life, and with the impossible question: Does Love have the power to change Fate?
